Arrival Dates: January 11-12, 2016
Orientation: January 13-15, 2016
First Day of Classes: January 19, 2016
Once the student cofirms their flight arrival information with the ISSS office, a staff member is assigned to meet the students at the International Airport in Rochester, New York.
Upon arrival, students are driven to the Geneseo Campus and move into their residence halls. There will be volunteers to help students find their assiged room and help them move in. The ISSS office has limited supply of bed linens for students to borrow for the first few days when they arrive. During the first day of orientation, students are taken shopping where they are able to purchase linens, room supplies and decorations of their choice.
Services of orientation
The goal of these information packets is to provide a description of American values and behaviors to set students' expectations about life in the U.S., to assist students with the pratical steps involved in applying for a visa and to advise students what to pack to come live in Geneseo.
Orientation does not end when classes begin. Throughout the semester, the ISSS office and ESOL department together offer special programs and workshops designed to ease the adjustment into Geneseo. Upon arrival, the "formal" orientation program inludes presentations on the American classroom, academic resources, social life, legal information for maintaining your immigration status and availability of ESOL courses. Part of orientation is dedicated to shopping for your on-campus room!
