Instructor Step-by-Step Guide:

Setting up Grade labels (Entering Non-Numeric grade values)

Use Grade Labels to map a non-numeric grade to a percentage value.  For example, adding a Label of "A" and a Percentage of "95" allows you to enter an A in the Grade Entry Gride, which the gradebook will interpret as a 95.  In the same way, some professors want to grade assignments with checkmarks as completed or not completed and this could be done in the same way (e.g., a "Y" = 1 and a "N" = 0).  To set up grade labels:

  1. Go to the Manage tab in your course and then click on the link to the Gradebook.
  2. Click on the Grade Labels Link on the left (See Figure 1).

  3. Fill in the blanks showing your grade lable and the percent that the label is worth (See Figure 2).
  4. Click Done to return to your Gradebook homepage.
