School of Education Accreditation
The faculty and staff in the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at SUNY Geneseo welcome you to browse through our NCATE/CAEP site. This site was originally created in preparation for our accreditation visit by the Board of Examiners from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Our accreditation visit took place in the fall of 2012 and we were reaccredited. During 2013, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) joined forces with the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) to form a new accrediting body – The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Because the change is still in transition, our website reflects this. CAEP’s vision is to create a model unified accreditation system which will strengthen accountability and transparency, and support innovation. Our next accreditation visit will be in the fall of 2019 and at that point we will be seeking CAEP accreditation.
The accreditation process provides the opportunity for our School of Education to engage in serious self-study and reflection. In our last accreditation cycle, the focus was on the efforts being made by our unit to continuously improve our programs, the performance of our teacher candidates, and the effect they have on the students they teach. School of Education faculty and staff have begun to work intensely to prepare for our next accreditation cycle. The School of Education at SUNY Geneseo has a long and rich history of preparing teachers who are knowledgeable, skilled in their instructional practices, passionate about their work, and motivated to provide leadership within their profession. We believe you will agree that the current Geneseo faculty and staff have continued that record of excellence as evidenced by our candidates’ accomplishments.
