SUNY Geneseo has been named among the most environmentally responsible colleges by The Princeton Review.

Geneseo is included in the newly released 2018 edition of The Princeton Review’s Guide to 399 Green Colleges. The College has consistently been included in the annual guide since it was first published in 2010. Most of the 399 schools named are in the United States, with 13 located in Canada and one each in Egypt and Greece.

The Princeton Review chose the colleges based on "Green Rating" scores that the company tallied in summer 2018 from surveys of administrators at 648 colleges taken in 2017-18. The survey asked colleges to report on their school's sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. More than 25 data points were weighted in the tallies for the Green Rating score.

Geneseo has had a long-standing commitment to sustainability. Geneseo's President’s Commission on Sustainability is one of two presidential commissions on campus (along with the Diversity Commission). The commission was established in 2012 and the College formed the Office of Sustainability in 2014. Students, staff, faculty and alumni are involved consistently in a variety of sustainability initiatives, and the College recently developed an interactive storytelling map for the exploration of how the college and alumni are leading sustainability efforts on campus and throughout the world. The college is a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, which addresses 17 goals related to sustainability and was developed by private enterprise and organization leaders throughout the world.
