FILM SERIES: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series will present its third and final film, "City of God" at 7 p.m. in 204 Newton Hall. (Brazil, Director Fernando Meirelles, 2003). An internationally recognized feature that exposed the horrors of contemporary Brazilian society, this shockingly violent film shows the unbelievable poverty, greed, danger and crime in the Cidade de Deus – a housing project started in the 60's that became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. Busca-Pe is a poor black child who takes the eye of an artist to his horrific surroundings. He eventually becomes a professional photographer where he attempts to capture the humanity of a seemingly inhumane existence. The film is free and open to the public. Discussant: Rebecca Root, Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations.  (Portuguese with English subtitles, 130 min.)
