SUNY Geneseo Calendar of Events for Nov. 1-7

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1:

MILNE LIBRARY:  The Corporate and Business Partners of SUNY Geneseo are sponsoring the Heavens Above exhibit, a series of transparencies and interactive media from deep space captured by the Hubble Space Telescope while orbiting the earth over the past 16 years.  The exhibit will be on display from August 27 to December 17.  For more information http://heavensabove.geneseo.edu/.

LEDERER GALLERY:  School of the Arts and the Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall, present Roland Freeman's "Mule Train: A Journey of Hope Remembered". The gallery is open noon-4 p.m. Sundays–Wednesdays and 5-8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays.  The exhibit runs through Saturday, November 17. DISCUSSION:  In conjunction with the Heavens Above exhibit, Milne Library will present, "The Meaning of Life" at 1:30 p.m. in 213 Milne.  Dr. Raymond Belliotti will analyze three answers to the meaning of life: the otherworldliness of the Religious Solution; the pessimism of Cosmic Meaninglessness; and the fragile optimism of The Creation of Contingent Meaning.  Belliotti concludes that the meaning of life is best understood through two metaphors: telescopes and slinky toys.

MUSICAL:  "Pacific Overtures" with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; book by John Weidman; directed and choreographed by Randy Kaplan and musical director, Jack Johnston.  8 p.m., Alice Austin Theatre in Brodie Hall. The musical runs through Sunday, Nov. 11 with Sunday's performance at 2 p.m.  General public $7, Faculty/Staff/Seniors $6, and students $5.  Tickets may be purchased at bbo.geneseo.edu, at the Student Union (245-5873) until dates of performance, then in Brodie Box Office (245-5833).
