With nearly all of the holiday-season campus drives completed, the hosting departments and programs are reporting that they've collected an abundance of food, gifts, and other goods for families and others who are in need in our region.

Ilana Cahill Earns Certified Executive Chef Title

Ilana Cahill, an executive chef with Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) at SUNY Geneseo, has recently earned her certification as an executive chef by the American Culinary Federation. This is the second highest certification offered by ACF.

Catalano ’20 Receives Gilman Award

Angela Catalano ’20 has won a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in support of her Spring 2019 study abroad to Costa Rica. Angela’s award makes her the 27th Geneseo student to win this State Department award.

The Office of Financial Aid to Implement Students On Track

Students on Track (SOT) is an application that integrates with DegreeWorks to determine if courses count toward a student’s degree program according to federal and state regulations. SOT will be operational in Spring 2019 for advanced registration of the Fall 2019 term.

Evans Named SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor

Beverly J. Evans, professor of French and Western Humanities in Geneseo’s Department of Languages and Literatures, is among the latest cohort of 14 faculty members the State University of New York Board of Trustees has named to a distinguished professorship.

Holiday Choral Performance

Members of Southside Boys and Hips-n-Harmony will join the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Spectrum Singers in a festive holiday-themed choral concert at historic St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in the Village of Geneseo at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. 

Student-led Composting Program Cultivates Waste

Student interns from the Office of Sustainability have created a compost-collection program that includes distributing compost buckets to individual faculty and staff members who are diverting the compostable waste they generate during the day .

Planetary Geologist and Students Preparing for NASA’s InSight Mars Landing

SUNY Geneseo geology majors Megan Kopp '19 and Alyssa DeMott '19 will join Geneseo planetary geologist Nick Warner at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Nov. 26 in Pasadena, Calif., for the scheduled 3 p.m. ET landing of InSight, NASA’s latest mission to Mars. The team will work for several weeks to characterize the area around the lander and make recommendations to NASA engineers on where to place the sensitive geological instruments that will explore the planet's crust, mantle and core.

Dance Ensemble's 101st Concert Performances

SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Theatre and Dance Studies presents Geneseo Dance Ensemble's Dances the Liberal Arts in Bodies in Motion. The concert features new works by student choreographers. The program will be presented in the Alice Austin Theatre, William A. Brodie Hall, on the SUNY Geneseo campus at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6–8, and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9. The performances are open to the public and free parking is available.
