GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Chamber Singers ensemble from SUNY Geneseo's Department of Music is collaborating with three area performing groups and three professional soloists to present Carl Orff's 20th century masterpiece "Carmina Burana" April 14 at 3 p.m. in the college's Wadsworth Auditorium.

Joining the Chamber Singers will be the Fairport High School Polyphonic Singers, the Genesee Valley Children's Chorus and the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. Conducting the concert will be Gerard Floriano, professor of music at Geneseo and director of the Chamber Singers.

The program will feature three professional soloists based in New York City: tenor Aaron McAllister, a 2003 SUNY Geneseo graduate and an award-winning musical director and conductor who is now music director of the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, Pa.; soprano Sharla Nafziger, who has performed some 70 works in the oratorio and concert repertoire across North America; and baritone Daniel Cilli, who also has performed nation-wide to rave reviews.

"It is a thrill to be able to perform Orff's visceral, heart-pounding choral masterwork with so many fine choirs and the nationally renowned Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra," said Floriano. "The combined power of the 120 voices of the Geneseo Chamber Singers and the Fairport Polyphonic Choir from Fairport High School will be the launching pad for an unforgettably powerful performance. The vocal soloists are all outstanding performers in their own right and will sound magnificent in Orff's incredible piece."

"Carmina Burana" is Orff's best-known work, which he composed in 1935-36. The cantata is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection by the same name.

Admission is $8 for students and $10 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Brodie Box Office or online. More information is available at 585-245-5873.

Ticket Revenue will benefit this year's SUNY Geneseo Chamber Singers International Tour.
