GENESEO, N.Y. – An estimated 600 SUNY Geneseo alumni and friends are returning for Summer Reunion July 12-13 for a full weekend of activities and entertainment on campus and in the village. One alumna from the class of 1935, who lives in the Rochester area, is planning to return to celebrate the 78th anniversary of her graduation from the college.
The reunion coincides with the village's 27th Rotary Summer Festival and Geneseo Air Show, making it one of the busiest weekends of the year in the community.
"We sense a high level of enthusiasm about this year's reunion," said Ronna Bosko, director of alumni and parent relations at Geneseo. "It's a pleasure to welcome our alumni back to campus any time of the year, but reunion weekend is special because it brings together alumni who typically attended Geneseo at the same time, some of whom are returning for the first time since graduation."
All Geneseo alumni are welcome to attend the reunion, and the weekend is packed with social and educational events to accommodate alumni of all ages. The college has planned special events for class members celebrating 50 or more years; alumnae of the Royal Lady Knights, a local service and social organization; and 50th anniversary celebrations of Geneseo's campus radio station, WGSU, and Sig Tau Psi, a local fraternity.
In addition to numerous social events and celebrations at the reunion, the college is conducting lifelong learning seminars, where alumni may attend special courses taught by Geneseo faculty and staff.
The annual Alumni Association Awards will be presented Saturday during the Alumni Picnic at noon, hosted by Geneseo President Christopher C. Dahl.
Several entertainment offerings are scheduled throughout the weekend. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will perform an outdoor concert Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. on the Saratoga Field (rain location: Wadsworth Auditorium). The concert will feature selections from well-known movies and patriotic favorites. Tickets are available at the Geneseo United Methodist Church; Central Presbyterian Church; David Mann's Jewelers; Noreen's Hallmark Gift Shop; and the John W. Chanler Agency (Livonia and Geneseo). Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and students. At the door, the tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids and students. The concert is presented by the family of Mrs. Hubert W. Chanler and the Gertrude L. Chanler RPO Fund at the Rochester Area Foundation.
Saturday evening at 8 o'clock, the Skycoasters band will perform in the Geneseo Village Park as part of the Summer Festival.
The entire reunion schedule and a registration form are available on the college's website. Additional information is available by calling the Geneseo Alumni Association at 585-245-5506 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
