GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at Geneseo is among 41 “Best Buy Schools” named in the 2014 edition of “The Fiske Guide to Colleges.” Inclusion on the list in the highly respected publication is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.
This year, the publication names 41 institutions – 21 public and 20 private – as “Best Buys,” categorized as inexpensive or moderately priced with a four- or five-star academic rating.
The guide is authored by former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske, who launched the guide in 1980 when he sensed that college-bound students and their families needed better information on which to base their educational choices. Not only does the guide have an “Index by Price” that groups public and private institutions into four price categories, from inexpensive to very expensive, but also suggests a number of schools that offer outstanding academics and high quality student life programs with relatively moderate prices.
The guide accepts no consulting, advertising or other fees from colleges and has no outside relationship with colleges working on its behalf. The goal of the publication is to help future students select the best colleges to reach their own goals in a price range that is manageable for their personal circumstances.
