GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo is among the most selective colleges in upstate New York and adjoining sections of Pennsylvania and Ohio, according to rankings by the business newspaper Buffalo First.
Geneseo ranks 11th out of the 100 colleges in the survey, which reflects statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics on difficulty of gaining admission. Geneseo is one of seven upstate colleges among the first 11 on the list and among two of those 11 within about an hour's drive from Buffalo.
Geneseo received more than 9,000 applications last year and welcomed 988 new freshmen to campus. The mean high school average for the class was 94; the mean SAT score (composite of critical reading and math) was 1333. For the past several years, Geneseo's average has been about 300 points higher than the national composite average for all U.S. college students taking the test.
