GENESEO, N.Y. -- Faculty and students from SUNY Geneseo will participate in the Eastman School of Music’s 10th annual Women in Music Festival by hosting a concert during the festival March 27 at 8 p.m. in the Doty Hall recital hall. It's the second year Geneseo has participated in the event.
The concert is among several in the Rochester area during the weeklong festival, which Geneseo concert coordinator Pamela Kurau, assistant professor of voice at Geneseo, says will feature works written by a variety of female composers to celebrate their music. All festival events are free and open to the public.
The Geneseo concert will feature eight works, all composed by women:
The Women in Music Festival began in 2005 as a celebration of the contributions of women to all aspects of music, including composition, performance, teaching, scholarship and administration. The festival includes noontime and evening concerts, a composer residency, master classes, lectures, school presentations, and contributes in music to Women's History Month.
