First-Year Programs

YouBelong program series is designed to assist new transfer students during their transition to Geneseo.  Focusing on academic and social transitions, YouBelong offers a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of all transfer students.  To view the current semester schedule, click here.  The YouBelong program is a recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Student Affairs Program Award from the State University of New York and the 2012 NYSTAA STEP Award.

The First-Year Adirondack Adventure program takes place prior to the start of classes in August.  Students travel to Lake Placid, NY and stay at the Lake Placid Youth Hostel where they spend five days hiking, canoeing, and exploring the area with a faculty member.  Students do receive academic credit for INTD 101 by participating and completing the assigned work for this class.  Limited spaces are available.  For more information about the Adirondack Adventure program, click here.

New Student Convocation marks the official start of the academic year at Geneseo.  Faculty and staff attend the event in academic regalia and welcome new students into the Geneseo community as they begin their academic career at Geneseo.  This is an important part of the first-year experience.

Knights First Day of Service is a program designed for new transfer and first-year students who will begin their studies at Geneseo in the fall.  Knights First Day of Service is a volunteer effort that gives you the opportunity to give back to Geneseo and the surrounding community while meeting and working with other new students.  Students spend a Saturday morning in September at locations around Livingston County, helping people or programs in need--it could be painting a barn, cleaning up a trail in Letchworth State Park, serving a senior citizen, or organizing books at the library.  We'll identify a project for you and you'll make new friends!

MidKnight Breakfast is a fall semester tradition!  Celebrate the end of your first semester by having faculty and staff cook and serve you breakfast.  Organized by the first-year class officers, MidKnight Breakfast promises to be a night of relaxation, fun, and a chance to enjoy the company of your friends!
