We strongly encourage family members to attend Summer Orientation with their students. The start of a student's college experience is a very important and exciting time, not only for the student, but for parents and families as well. The more you understand about the college experience, the more helpful you will be to your student during his/her transition. Students and family members are welcome to be apart of the Summer Orientation program. A separate, but concurrent, program has been designed for parents and family members.
Family members can expect to gain an increased familiarity with campus life at Geneseo and be introduced to some of the faculty, staff, and students who teach, advise, and guide students at Geneseo. Information about residence life, campus safety and security, academic support services, student health care, community expectations, and tips on how to support students during their (and your) transition to college will also be provided at Family Orientation.
Registration is $20 per family. Family members may elect to include meal plans with their registration. Meals are served in the dining hall and include dinner on Day 1 and breakfast and lunch on Day 2, as well as snack breaks. Family meal plans are $45 per person.
Family members may also choose to stay on campus in Niagara Hall. Please note residence halls are not air-conditioned and you will share bathrooms. Each room contains one or two twin-long beds and families should plan to bring their own linens, towels, and fan. Family rooms are $30 per room. (If a student and family need to arrive on campus the evening before orientation, “Early Arrival” status can be added for an extra $10 per student and $20 per family room. Please plan to arrive between 5pm-10pm if you are arriving the night before.)
Family members who would like to attend orientation, but would prefer to stay off-campus can find information about accommodations at Geneseo Tourism (http://geneseony.com) or Livingston County Tourism (http://fingerlakeswest.com).
SUNY Geneseo would like to ensure that no individual with a disability is excluded, denied access, or otherwise treated differently from any other individual attending Orientation. Please contact us about accommodations at your earliest convenience, but no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of your orientation session, to give us sufficient time to make appropriate arrangements. Contact the Orientation Office at email@example.com or 585-245-5852.
If you pay your orientation fee(s) and then decide to withdraw from or delay attendance at Geneseo, notify the Admissions Office immediately. If you request a 100% refund for your orientation fee(s) after June 1, a 10% handling fee will be deducted from your refund. To request a refund, please fill out the Refund Request Form.
