  • Exploring Physics and Chemistry through Dozens of Demos, Newton 204

How do physical laws that govern the universe manifest themselves in our everyday experiences? In this presentation we will use a series of classroom demonstrations to illustrate many of the basic laws of nature. The outcomes of some demonstrations are obvious, but every once in a while science surprises us and confounds our expectations! Kurt Fletcher, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physics & Astronomy and Amber Charlebois, Lecturer of Chemistry will lead these entertaining and interactive demonstrations.

  • Ireland's 1916 Rising in History and Literature, Newton 201

Last year, Irish people around the world commemorated the one hundredth anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, which inaugurated a period of prolonged conflict and violence that ultimately led to the partition of Ireland and independence for 26 of Ireland’s 32 counties. Using William Butler Yeats’s poem “Easter 1916” and its famous refrain, “A terrible beauty is born,” as the foundation, Rob Doggett, Professor of English, and Joe Cope, Professor of History will explore the contexts and legacies of this historic armed rebellion.

As Seen on Season 4 of NBC’s “The Sing-Off”. VoicePlay is unlike any theatrical experience available today, recreating the orchestrated sound of an entire musical production with nothing but the the human voice.

The cast of VoicePlay has taken the timeless sound of vocal music and turned it completely on its head. Re-imagined as a full stage show, amazing, humorous, and vertigo-inducing harmonies pepper VoicePlay’s music-without-music sound as it ping-pongs between eras and styles, channeling the breadth of the musical landscape and lacing it with inventive and often hilarious on-stage theatrics.
Fit for all ages, VoicePlay’s recordings and concerts are an impossible to miss hit which have to be heard to be believed.
