Chief Prusak Profile Picture

Christopher Prusak was appointed Chief of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in May 2020. The Chief oversees all operational aspects of the department, including the uniformed patrol operations, investigations and administrative components, including parking and transportation. 

Prusak came to SUNY Geneseo as the Assistant Chief in 2018 after 16 years with the University Police at the University at Albany.  Prusak earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Excelsior College, an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Monroe Community College, an associate’s degree in munitions systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force and is currently taking classes toward a master’s in business administration from the University at Albany.  He is also a member of the New York Air National Guard, serving as a Logistics Officer with the 109th Airlift Wing. 

Chief Prusak’s training includes: Crisis Intervention Team and Advanced Crisis Intervention Team, Accreditation Manager, Public Information Officer, FBI LEEDA - Supervisor, Command and Executive Institutes, Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor, Firearms Instructor and General Topics Instructor.

Assistant Chief Ewanow Profile PictureScott Ewanow was appointed Assistant Chief of Police of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in July 2020. He started his career with the College in 2010 as a police officer. Ewanow was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014 and Inspector in 2018. Prior to his time at the College, he served three years as a police officer at the College at Cortland. The Assistant Chief of Police oversees patrol operations and emergency response planning. He also serves as the Chair of the Board for Geneseo First Response.

Assistant Chief Ewanow holds a bachelor's degree in history with initial certification in secondary education from SUNY Geneseo. In addition, he is a 2019 graduate of Session 275 of the FBI National Academy where he earned a graduate certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia. 

Through the New York State Department of Criminal Justice, Ewanow is a certified to instruct: General Topics, Ethical Awareness, Firearms/Use of Force, Reality Based Training and Active Shooter Response.

Lieutenant Phelps Profile PictureAndrew Phelps was appointed as a Lieutenant of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in November 2017 and is currently a night shift supervisor. He came to the College as a police officer in 2007 after serving as a police officer in Steuben County. Phelps has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Hilbert College; and he graduated from the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy in 2006. He has been a member of the College's Alcohol and Other Drug Advisory Group (AODAG) since 2018 and is the Program Director for the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program. 

Lt. Phelps's training includes: Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer, Patrol Rifle Instructor, Bike Patrol Officer and Records Management System Administrator. Through the New York State Department of Criminal Justice, he is certified to instruct: Firearms/Use of Force, Reality Based Training and General Topics.

David Schwan was appointed as a Lieutenant of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in October 2014. He came to the College as a police officer in 2007. Schwan has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, in addition to studies in accounting and computer programming, from Kings College. He is currently a day shift supervisor, Evidence Technician and Large Event Tactician for the department.

Lt. Schwan's training includes: Bike Patrol Officer, Critical Decision Making during a Crisis, Patrol Supervision, Investigative Photography, Naloxone Training, Drug Identification Certification, Initial Response to Active Shooters, Interview and Interrogation, Enhancing Law Enforcement Response to Sexual Violence on Campus, Safe Zone, Mental Health First Aid and Situational Crisis Management.

Officer Bree Profile PictureKyle Bree was appointed as a Police Officer of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in September 2019 after graduating from the Alfred State Police Academy. As an officer, some of Bree's duties include traffic and parking enforcement, investigations, providing first aid and engaging with the campus community. Bree has a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from SUNY Brockport and a master's degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University at Buffalo.

Officer Bree's training includes: Active Shooter Levels I & II, Certified First Responder, LEO Autism Awareness, Mental Health First Aid, Opioid Overdose Prevention and Radar/Lidar Operator. His interests include sports, working out and discussing different workout principles and programs. He also enjoys spending time outdoors and finding any excuse to talk about his golden retriever, Rodger.

Officer LoPiano Profile PictureChristopher LoPiano was appointed as a Police Officer of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in June 2019. He brought with him over 17 years experience in higher education, most recently as a police officer at SUNY Cobleskill. LoPiano has a bachelor's degree in Political Science from St. John Fisher and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Service Leadership and Innovation from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Susan Errington was appointed as a Communication and Security Specialist of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo in April 2005. She came to the College as a clerk for the Public Safety Office in March 1994. The department then transitioned from Public Safety to University Police, changing her duties and title to Security Services Assistant. Those duties included assisting officers with traffic control and building/property checks. She was then promoted to Campus Public Safety Officer (now known as Communications and Security Specialist), again shifting her duties within the department to align with the dispatcher role she holds today.

Dispatcher Errington's training includes: Security Guard, Fair and Impartial Policing, Telecommunicator's Emergency Response Taskforce, Disasters and Dispatchers, Crisis Communication, Exceptional Customer Service and Active Attack Emergency Communications.
