1983 Geneseo graduate Jeff Clarke has provided a $10,000 challenge gift to help build a culture of student philanthropy at the college.
GENESEO, N.Y. -- A $10,000 challenge gift from 1983 Geneseo graduate Jeff Clarke, a managing partner at Augusta Columbia Marketing Group, is encouraging students to help build a culture of student philanthropy at the college. The funds have helped the college launch "Make Your Mark - The Student Giving Challenge," which is incentivizing students affiliated with an organization, team or academic department to participate in giving. The organizations, departments or teams compete for cash awards based on the percentage of students in the group making a gift of $10 or more to the campaign.
Clarke is a generous supporter of the college and a member of the Geneseo Foundation Board of Directors.
The campaign has issued five affinity-based weekly challenges this spring. Each week is focusing on a different group of organizations:
Feb. 24 - March 1: Fraternities (Men's and Coed)
March 2 - March 9: Sororities
March 10 - March 16: Women's Intercollegiate Athletics
March 24 - March 30: Men's Intercollegiate Athletics
March 31 - April 6: Academic Departments
The organization, team or department that has the highest percentage of members making a gift of $10 or more to "Make Your Mark" during their designated week will be awarded $1,000 from the challenge gift. Second place will receive $700 and third place will receive $300.
Challenge monies will be available to the winning teams and organizations for immediate use. Donations and the challenge money will help to fund leadership training, travel to national conferences, and other meaningful activities that develop and enhance the organization. To participate, students must make their gift the week of the challenge they are supporting. Gifts can be made online or in person at Erwin Hall Room 23.
"Make Your Mark - The Student Giving Challenge" is a student-run program to encourage and facilitate a lasting relationship between current students and the college. The campaign provides an opportunity for students to give back to Geneseo and the things that matter most to them.
