Residence Hall Visitation Guidelines

(effective November 12, 2021)

SUNY Geneseo’s COVID-19 infection rate has been low and compliance with protocols high. As a result, residents will receive full visitation privileges effective November 12. Beginning this date, residents may have non-Geneseo student friends or family members visit their residence hall and room.

Please keep in mind that residence hall visitation we will continue to be evaluated based on the number of positive COVID-19 cases and violations of residence hall policy and student conduct. Should either increase, visitation opportunities will return to the guidelines set in place at the beginning of the academic year.

Visitation is a privilege and subject to the guidelines in the Residential LicenseResidents may host a guest in their residence hall (including room and common areas) under these conditions:

  • Guests will be allowed within individual suites/rooms only with the consent of all assigned residents.
  • Guests to a residence hall, whether a SUNY Geneseo student or not, must be accompanied by the resident host at all times.
  • Masks must be worn in common areas.
  • Residents may host overnight visitors no more than three nights per month.

This visitation policy will remain in place through the remainder of the Fall 2021 semester.

Prior to November 12, 2021

In an effort to limit exposure to COVID-19 and the Delta variant in our on campus living environments, visitation is limited to registered SUNY Geneseo students (both on and off campus) and will be monitored.

  • All non-resident SUNY Geneseo students must be hosted by a SUNY Geneseo resident of that particular residence hall.
  • Residence Hall access for non SUNY Geneseo students will be limited to College employees.
  • After Move-In Days, parents, friends, family, and other helpers who are NOT SUNY Geneseo students will no longer be permitted to enter the residence halls.

Depending on campus metrics (number of COVID-19 cases) the Guest/Visitation Policy will shift to allow more permissions or to remove them.
