Differential Geometry Problem Sets

Part A problem set will be due September 19

1.5, 1.8, 2.8, 2.12, 3.4, 4.7, 5.1

The first actual differential geometry problem set will be due October 3

Rework the commentary on the tractrix, p. 69, filling in all the details.
Same for p. 70.
7.5, 7.8, 7.9

Problem Set 3 is due October 17 (please note this is the day after the Take Home exam, please work ahead).

8.2, 8.4, 8.6

Problem Set 4 is due on Hallowe'en, October 31 (no costumes required - no extra points for dressing as a Klein bottle)

1.  Justify the analytic expression for central projection.  Use it to check if the projection is conformal or equiareal.

8bis.4, 8bis.6, 8bis.8

5.  Find a map somewhere (on-line or in a book) that is *not* of the kinds we have studied.  Find out what kind it is.  Write an analytic expression for it and analyse it in the ways we have.

Problem Set 5 is due on November 14 (please note this is the day after the Take Home exam, please work ahead).

9.2, 9.6, 9.7

The last problem set of the semester, due on December 5, is from chapter 11.

11.2, 3, 4, 6
