PHYS 372: Undergraduate Research

Course Information:Dr. Mclean's home page

PHYS 372 requires the student to arrange a research project with a faculty member as the mentor.  In semesters during which Dr. McLean is the instructor of record for this course, please notify him as soon as possible who you will be working with.

Your faculty mentor will be in charge of all work plans, requirements, and determining your course grade.  The instructor of record handles just a few items, as below.

Assignments:

Due Date Assignment
One week after the semester starts

One-page Project Description, which has been approved by your faculty mentor.  This must include a description of what work you expect to complete, and a "deliverable" which is some identifiable product of your work.  The deliverable could be a report on your work (paper, poster, etc) or a recorded body of information.

This Project Description must be approved by the Physics Department.  If it is found to be lacking, you may need to revise it.

End of Semester

By the end of the semester, Dr. McLean must see the "deliverable."  This may have happened earlier; a common example is if the deliverable is a GREAT Day poster.
