THE WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA




"The World Encyclopedia" is an ongoing international collaborative artists' book project
curated by Diane Sophrin.
Participants are a group of over 70 artists from

Austria, Croatia, Dagestan, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Moldava, Norway, Poland, Romania,
Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United States, etc.
Artists submited a page in the medium of their choice pertaining to the subject of "the world",
all pages being combined into one collective book/box and presented as a performance/installation piece. .
The inaugural exhibition of "The World Encyclopedia" took place at the The Helen Day Art Center
in Stowe, Vermont, United States in 2001.
The Project was subsequently exhibited in 2003 at the Mu-Terem Galeria, Debrecen, Hungary,
and the Galeria Sztuki Wspolczesnej in Przemysl, Poland.
In 2004 the
"The World Encyclopedia" opened at the Raday Könyvesház in Budapest, Hungary.
"The World Encyclopedia" artists' book project is now part of the permanent collection of
the Ferencvárosi Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény Museum in Budapest, Hungary.
