DOM FELIKSA - HOUSE OF FELIKS

THIS SERIES IS ABOUT HOUSE AS FAMILY, HOUSE AS HOME, HOUSE AS IDENTITY,
HOUSE REPRESENTING LOSS OF ALL.

IN THE SHOAH, BEREFT OF HOME, SHOVED OUT, SHOVED IN, SHORN OF IDENTITY AND CLINGING TO THEIR VERY SOULS,
JEWS WERE SURROUNDED BY BRICK WALLS - THESE VERY BRICK WALLS, HERE ON THIS VERY STREET, IN THIS VERY HOUSE
- mine for over a decade, unaware!

NEARBY IN POLAND, MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER FELIKS SZCZECINSKI DIED AN OLD MAN JUST BEFORE THE CATASTROPHE.
HOUSE OF FELIKS, HIS DOM FELIKSA, WAS WIPED OUT.

HOUSE AS FAMILY, HOUSE AS HOME, HOUSE AS IDENTITY, ALL LOST
- except for a few, including mine!

IN 2005 I WENT TO ŁÓDŹ TO WALK MY FAMILY'S STREETS AND PHOTOGRAPH THEIR HOUSES.
FROM THESE PHOTOS I CREATED
ŁÓDŹ: THE RETURNING (ŁÓDŹ: A VISSZATÉRÉS) EXHIBITED IN 2008 IN BUDAPEST.
A LARGE MONOPRINT SERIES THEN FOLLOWED, OF WHICH TEN ARE PRESENTED HERE.

A GROUP OF ANCILLARY DIGITALLY MANIPULATED IMAGES ARE EXHIBITED AS WELL.
