Organization Directory

Welcome to the Student Organization Directory!

With more than 180 student clubs and organizations, there truly is something for everyone at SUNY Geneseo.

A college-registered Student Organization is any student-driven group whose primary membership and entire leadership consists of students enrolled at SUNY Geneseo; is formed in order to contribute to the students' personal development and the advancement of the College Mission; is non-credit bearing; and is officially registered with the Department of Student Life.

Full registration does not imply college endorsement of the positions and views of any organization. Rather, it implies that the institution accepts the organization’s mission as educationally valid and that the organization has complied with institutional registration and continuing registration procedures.

Full registration with the College does not permit the organization to act in the name of the university, to represent the university, engage in any contractual obligation in the name of the university, nor represent the organization as being an official part of the university.

Accounting Society

Accounting Society has helped host the NYC trip for the past 12 years. We also help organize the meet the accountants night and the accounting banquet. This year we are having regular meetings on Tuesday nights to help accounting (and other school of business students) to connect with upperclassman to help navigate through recruiting season and various other skills. The main events we host are primarily focused on networking with persons already in the workforce to help give students an idea of which business sphere to pursue and gain contacts that might aid in a future job search.

Poets Society

Poets' Society exists to spread appreciation of poetry in its various forms and to provide a creative outlet for its members, existing as an open and accepting community of writers and listeners. We hope to not only extend knowledge of the craft and performance of poetry but also to encourage our members to embrace and engage the world of poetry beyond ourselves.

Bookworms will spread awareness of and explore literature through reading and discussing in its meetings. We will advocate and promote literacy on campus and off through collaborations in the community.

Shakti: South Asian Student Association

We want to spread South Asian culture to the students at SUNY Geneseo, and make them more aware of the countries, culture, customs, problems, and people of South Asia. At our weekly General Meetings we talk about festivals, diversity, political events, games, and such that take place in the countries of South Asia. Our members consist not only of students from South Asian countries, but also students who want to know more about the region, and want to be involved in our events. \n\nOur biggest events of the year include the Diwali Dinner that celebrates the Hindu festival of Diwali, ACE's Intercultural Dinner, and our dinner and show, Sangamam. At Sangamam, we celebrate South Asian culture through a traditional dinner and—staying true to Bollywood—a skit that includes many dance performances. Sangamam is a wonderful evening of color, music, dance, and festivities. \n\nShakti is part of the SUNY Geneseo Alliance for Community Enrichment (ACE) and is funded by the Student Association (SA).

College Democrats at Geneseo

The purpose of this organization is to discuss Democratic politics and current events, while helping to spread the values of the Democratic Party across the Geneseo campus and outside community. We believe in exposing students to local, state-wide, national, and international politics and encouraging calm, rational discussions. Our organization welcomes students from across the political spectrum, and we are proud to foster communication among students who disagree with one another. We also believe in encouraging broader student participation in politics, working either on our own to help spread the values of the Democratic Party or working with the College Republicans and Political Affairs Club to encourage general political participation.

Alpha Omega Pi

Our organization was founded in 1985 as a place for female-identifying people to build life-long friendships, create networking opportunities, strive for the betterment our community and establish a home in the small town of Geneseo, NY. \n\nAs members of the Greek community, we are actively involved in charity work which enable leadership opportinities and foster academic success. Upon entering the career-world, our commitment to sisterhood and friendship empowers sisters to graduate Geneseo as determined, capable, intelligent, and well-rounded women ready to conquer the world. \n\nFurthermore, through academic partners & alumni connections sisters are able to deepen their understanding in a diverse field of interests. Our alumni network help carve pathways and provide career opportunities for all members, whether they be active sisters or long-time alumnus themselves. Likewise, our involvements in philanthropy such as fundraising events for Give Kids the the World, the annual Breast Cancer Awareness walk in Rochester, high school scholarships and so forth promote a positive association with our community. These engagements also teach our sisters the importance of giving back and community outreach while also allowing a sense of autonomy when choosing charities. \n\nLastly, AOPi strives to be a diverse community of female-identifying people that are accepting and inclusive of people of all race, gender, sexual orientation, economic background, abilities, etc. \n\nOverall, AOPi is a dedicated group of self-determined women that aspire to cultivate a positive and progressive community within this sorority, this school, and the world.

Young Children's Council

Our mission as an organization is to aid in the preparation of future teachers by connecting them with children in the community. Through events such as storytime, our members get an opportunity to practice reading to children as well as learning about children from the community. Having students from the community come to the event allows us to get a better understanding of the students we will work with on field visits. Building these strong relationships with Geneseo community children not only makes the children happy, but it makes the Geneseo college students/club members happy and helps in preparing them for their future career.

Geography Club

The purposes are as follows: \nTo further professional interest in geography by affording a common organization for those interested in this field. \nTo strengthen student and professional training through academic experiences, outside of the classroom and laboratory. \nTo advance the status of geography as a cultural and practical discipline for study and investigation. \nTo provide a forum for students to showcase their experiences in the field of geography. \nTo help unify the geography department’s students and faculty. \nAs a chapter of YouthMappers, the purpose of the GIS Association of Geneseo is to spread awareness, support, education, volunteerism, and career advancement opportunities in geographic information systems, across disciplines and departments, in the context of SUNY Geneseo, the local community, and the global community. It is also the Geneseo chapter of YouthMappers.org, an international humanitarian organization whose mission is “to cultivate a generation of young leaders to create resilient communities, and to define their world by mapping it.”

Original Xpression

The OGX Dance Team’s purpose is to extend our love for dance to the Geneseo campus and community. Our intentions are to welcome students who don’t exactly fit in with modern and contemporary movements. We feel that the OGX Dance Team will offer another style of dance that will allow students not only from the urban areas of New York but including students of every culture to appreciate dance. The OGX Dance Team would like to perform at events hosted by Geneseo clubs such as talent shows, cultural dinners, Relay For Life, Geneseo Great Day. We host our own events and workshops throughout the school year. We partake in WOW and GLK programming. We also host a Spring Dance Showcase in which we portray our talents and host other Culture clubs or outside teams. We like to host activities in which we promote being active and traveling to nearby to spread our love for urban and cultural dancing.
