2011 SUNY Geneseo Field HockeyThe SUNY Geneseo women's field hockey team has been an intercollegiate sport since the fall of 1997. Head coach Jessica Seren is a 2006 graduate of SUNY Cortland and has a record of 48-25 after four seasons. The program was started by Andrea Zurlo and has compiled a record of 115-100 in its 14 seasons. In 2011, Geneseo posted a record of 10-10 for Seren as Geneseo earned the #4 seed for the SUNYAC tournament and dropped a tough 2-0 decision to top-seeded Cortland, despite the game being scoreless with less than three minutes to play. Geneseo graduated 228 career points in 2010, but Seren relied on a returning defensive stalwart in sophomore Bridget McGovern and found a new offensive weapon in sophomore Kayla DeAngelis. McGovern earned SUNYAC Player of the Year and first team All-SUNYAC after scoring six goals with three assists for 15 points and aiding the Blue Knights to a 2.08 goals against average. DeAngelis set a single season school record with 17 goals and posted the second best single season with 41 points on her way to first team All-SUNYAC. Junior defender Rachel Atkins had two goals and three assists on her way to second team All-SUNYAC. The super sophomore class of scorers includes Katie Farley, who had 15 points on five goals and five assists, transfer Kerry Hosford, who totalled three goals and six helpers for 12 points and Kelsey Horan, who added seven points on three goals and one assist off the bench. Juniors Aly Tarney and Katie Gallo return to the Geneseo defense after starting all 20 games, while junior Caitlyn Dowell posted a 2.26 goals against in playing 1,085 of 1,410 minutes. The Blue Knights lost five games by one goal and only graduate two players in Abby Sayler, who scored three goals and one assist in 20 midfield starts, and Katie Carrick, who made 12 starts in the midfield. Sayler and McGovern earned SUNYAC All-Tournament.
