The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team has been an intercollegiate sport since the spring of 1996. Head coach Carly Ritchlin is a 2001 graduate of SUNY Cortland and has a record of 88-38 after eight seasons. The program was started by Sue Behme and has compiled a record of 147-84 in its 16 seasons.

 

In 2011, Geneseo posted a record of 12-4 for Ritchlin. The Blue Knights, who won seven straight to open the season, finished with a SUNYAC fourth-place record of 5-3 and lost in the SUNYAC semifinals to top-seeded Cortland, taking all four of their losses in the competitive SUNYAC.  First year Caroline Buonocore exploded on the scene by scoring a school record 73 goals (sixth in NCAA Division III) with five assists for 78 points on her way to IWLCA first team All-Empire Region, SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and first team All-SUNYAC honors. Senior Anna Hutchings claimed second team All-Empire Region and first team All-SUNYAC after scoring 33 goals and 13 assists with a school record 87 draw controls (seventh in Division III). Junior defender Johanna Trupp garnered her first All-SUNYAC recognition with a second team selection after scooping 28 groundballs, collecting 12 draws and forcing 11 turnovers. Geneseo had five other players surpass the 20-point mark for the season as first year Emily Haggerty scored 44 points on 30 goals and a team-high 14 helpers, sophomore Rachel Petrone netted 22 goals and 11 assists, senior Lauren Burgoon added 18 goals and 13 assists, sophomore Lea Paris scored 22 goals and seven helpers and senior Casie Damore collected 17 goals and three assists. Defensively, sophomore Jenna Theofield, junior Christine Morra and first year Bridget McGovern helped limit opponents to 9.30 goals per game. Senior Annie Smith started all 16 games, posting a 10.03 goals against average with a .459 save percentage in playing 784 of 948 minutes, while sophomore Julie Bernatzky turned in a 5.83 goals against with a .600 save percentage in 164 minutes over eight appearances. Petrone and Haggerty received SUNYAC All-Tournament recognition.
