Why Study Sociology at Geneseo

Sociology is the study of the social processes that shape how people live, interact, and organize their communities. From everyday routines to larger issues such as inequality, law, and health care, sociology helps us understand the forces that structure society and influence individual lives. At Geneseo, students represent a wide range of interests and reasons for pursuing the major or minor in Sociology. Along the way, students gain skills and knowledge through small, discussion-based classes, guided by close faculty mentorship, and by applying theory to practice through research and internships.

Graduates pursue a wide range of paths:  some continue to law, public policy, social work, healthcare, and other graduate programs, while more than 80% of majors and minors enter meaningful and well-paying positions within six months in areas such as human resources, marketing, business, and case management.
