SUNY GENESEO

CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR SEPT. 30-OCT. 6

THURSDAY, SEPT. 30:

FILM: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series presents the film "Osama." One of 2003’s most powerful films and the first feature filmed in post-Taliban Afghanistan, "Osama" is the poignant look at the lengths a 12-year-old girl will endure to ensure her family’s survival under the oppressive Taliban rule. Based on a true story, the film, shot in Kabul with a cast of amateur actors from that city, follows the protagonist as she disguises herself as a boy in order to work and blend into the male-dominated society without drawing suspicions. The discussant will be Rose-Marie Chierici of the anthropology department. 7 p.m., Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

LEDERER GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall presents a SUNY Geneseo Faculty Art Exhibition. The exhibit will feature work by Douglas Anderson, Patrice Case, Dan DeZarn, Toni Hill, Tom MacPherson, Julie Popken, Carl Shanahan, Luvon Sheppard and Michael Teres. The gallery is open daily from 2-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, Oct. 8.

LOCKHART GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Lockhart Gallery at McClellan House presents "Facing History: Portraits from Genesee Valley Collections." This exhibition presents some of the most stunning examples of portraiture from the area’s most distinguished private collections. In addition to a history of regional portraiture, the show can also be seen as a "portrait" of the valley’s rich history, with an emphasis on the legacy of the Wadsworth family. The gallery is open daily from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Oct. 3.

OPUS GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Opus Gallery in the MacVittie College Union presents the SAA Installation Show. The gallery is open daily from 1-5 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Oct. 10.

PLAY: The School of Performing Arts presents the play "Tracers" conceived by John DiFusco. The play is directed by Randy Kaplan. 8 p.m., Robert Sinclair Theatre, Brodie Hall. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the Brodie Box Office (245-5833). Last day.
