SUNY Geneseo’s
Kenneth Levison Honored As Financial Executive of the Year GENESEO,
N.Y. – The Rochester chapter of
Financial Executives International and the Rochester Business Journal have
named Kenneth H. Levison, vice president for administration and finance at the
State University of New York at Geneseo, as financial executive of the year in
the nonprofit category. He received the honor at the organization’s
annual awards ceremony, where he was commended for his outstanding
contributions to the college and community.
Winners
were selected based on professional accomplishments, ethics, leadership
pertaining to their organizations’ financial performance and civic involvement. “His
broad range of knowledge in academic affairs and student services has made
Kenneth Levison one of the longest-serving and most respected CFOs in the state
education system,” wrote SUNY Geneseo President Christopher C. Dahl in his
nomination letter. “His creativity and
leadership have been major drivers for Geneseo’s current status as a nationally
recognized public liberal arts college.” Levison
was one of three nominated in the nonprofit category. Three other executives received top honors in
the smaller private company, larger private company and public company
categories. Levison
has held his current position since coming to SUNY Geneseo in 1985. He has administrative responsibility for all
of the college’s financial operations including budgeting, accounting, student
accounts, grants management and financial aid.
He also oversees human resources and campus facilities, facilities
planning and construction, and environmental health and safety. He also is the key administrative liaison
for Campus Auxiliary Services Corp., which provides dining and other ancillary
services. Under his leadership, the
college has implemented numerous systems to improve efficiency and cut costs,
including an online job application process to streamline the hiring process. In 2000,
the National Association of College and University Business Officers awarded
Levison its Higher Education Management Award for re-engineering custodial services. Levison
received his doctorate from Harvard. He
taught German at Harvard and later at Baldwin Wallace College and at St. John
Fisher College. In 1978, he joined the
New York State Executive Department as a senior budget examiner in the Division
of the Budget’s education unit, where he formulated budgets for various SUNY
and CUNY campuses and drafted legislation on higher education. He also served
as associate budget examiner and head of the division’s professional staffing
and career development unit. This is the
second year the Rochester Chapter of Financial Executives International and the
Rochester Business Journal have sponsored the financial executives of the year
competition. |
