GENESEO, N.Y. – Mary E. McCrank of Rochester, a former reporter for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and the former editor of Rochester Magazine, has been named Media Relations Officer at the State University of New York at Geneseo.

McCrank comes to Geneseo with 14 years of experience in public relations, media relations and news reporting. Prior to her appointment at SUNY Geneseo, she served as public relations manager for the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester, where she was responsible for a variety of publications and served as the primary contact for international, national, statewide and local media. Prior to her work there, McCrank served as editor in chief of the bimonthly Rochester Magazine, where she oversaw the production of the 96-page glossy during its publication run between 1999 and 2001.

A native of Rochester, McCrank also worked as director of communications for New York State Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle, D-Irondequoit, and was responsible for all public relations, marketing and communications for the assemblyman, who at the time was chair of the Assembly’s Small Business Committee.

McCrank also worked as a reporter and editor for the Sandusky Register in Sandusky, Ohio, where she developed and wrote news stories and features for the daily newspaper and edited and designed a special weekly edition. During her news career, McCrank earned a First Amendment in Journalism Award from Gannett Rochester Newspapers and took first place in a New York State Associated Press competition for spot-news reporting.

In her new position, McCrank will work closely with members of the college community to promote visibility for SUNY Geneseo and publicize the accomplishments and activities of faculty, staff and students.
