The L.I.V.E.S. Programs Admission Requirements

1. The Arc GLOW LIVES program

While the L.I.V.E.S. Program is a university-based program, students will be admitted to the SUNY Geneseo/Arc GLOW L.I.V.E.S. Program and not SUNY Geneseo.  The  SUNY Geneseo L.I.V.E.S. Program, in collaboration with the Arc GLOW, will seek to accept 8 - 12 new students each year, who are typically age 21 or older at the start of their program, who are eligible for OPWDD (Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities) services, and who live in Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates Counties.  All interested parties must complete the application process.  (All potential applicants must submit the completed student and parent application.)

 Potential applicants must:

  • have an intellectual and/or developmental disability, be eligible for OPWDD services, and live within the Finger Lakes DDRO assigned counties;
  • be able to communicate orally or with the use of a communication device;
  • demonstrate listening comprehension at a third-grade level or above;
  • have attended 4 years of high school and have maintained a satisfactory attendance record;
  • have received a Regent's Diploma, a Local Diploma, a General Education Development (GED), an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Diploma, a Certificate of Completion (attendance) from an accredited educational institution, the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential, or the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential;
  • demonstrate successful participation in an academic setting, a life-skills curriculum, or a vocational situation;
  • demonstrate appropriate social skills and the ability to act in a socially appropriate manner;
  • have a desire for greater independence;
  • be eligible for or receiving Medicare;
  • have a familial or natural support group that will help the student reach his/her goals;
  • travel independently on campus;
  • have a familial or natural support group to provide transportation to and from the college setting and other events as needed; and
  • be willing to make a four-year commitment to the L.I.V.E.S. Program.

2. The Genesee Valley BOCES LIVES program

While the L.I.V.E.S. Program is a university-based program, students will be admitted to the SUNY Geneseo/Genesee Valley BOCES L.I.V.E.S. Program  and not SUNY Geneseo.  The L.I.V.E.S. Program at SUNY Geneseo, in collaboration with the BOCES, will seek to accept 8 - 12 new students each year, who are between 18 & 21 years of age at the start of their program and who have an intellectual and/or other developmental disability.  All interested parties must complete the application process.  (All potential applicants must submit the completed student and parent application.)

 Potential applicants must:

  • have an intellectual and/or developmental disability and meet eligibility criteria;
  • be working toward the Common Core Standards as determined by the NY State Regents, the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential, the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential, or a [  ] certificate;
  • have completed 4 years of high school and have maintained a satisfactory attendance record;
  • have demonstrated successful participation in an academic setting, a functional-skills curriculum, and/or in a vocational situation;
  • be able to communicate orally or with the use of a communication device;
  • demonstrate listening comprehension at a third-grade level or above;
  • demonstrate appropriate social skills and the ability to act in a socially appropriate manner;
  • have a desire for greater independence;
  • have a familial or natural support group that will help the student reach his/her goals;
  • travel independently on campus; and
  • have a familial or natural support group to provide transportation to and from the college setting and other events as needed.
