Work trips

What is a work trip?

Geneseo Habitat collaborates with Livingston County Habitat to provide needy families with affordable, safe, decent housing. Volunteers from Habitat typically work on Saturdays, building and renovating these houses.

How long does a work trip last?

There are two 4-hour shifts. The first leaves Geneseo at 8:30 a.m. and the second leaves Genseo at 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to work both shifts if they want.

When do work trips take place?

Typically every Saturday morning. See the calendar for more information about work trip locations and times.

What should I wear on a work trip?

Wear a shirt and pants that you don't mind getting dirty. You should also wear sturdy shoes -- you'll be on your feet for your shift. Avoid open-toed shoes. If you have work-gloves, these will come in handy.

What about food on a work trip?

Unless notified otherwise, always bring your own lunch or money for fast food. Sometimes there will be food available on the work site (e.g. donuts, bagels, coffee), but not always.

Do I need my own transportation to the work site?

Typically we carpool to the work sites in one or two cars. We do need some people with cars, but you should be fine if you don't have one.
