Geneseo’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration, March 8, 2012
Geneseo will host Judy Richardson, Dorothy Zellner, and Betty Garman Robinson, Civil Rights Movement activists and editors of Hands on the Freedom Plow: Personal Accounts by Women in SNCC, for the college’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration on Thursday, March 8, at 7pm in the College Union Ballroom. Their keynote presentation will address their work as movement activists and their work as three of the six co-editors of Hands on the Freedom Plow, which includes the memoirs of 52 courageous women on the front lines of the 1960’s Southern Civil Rights Movement. The keynote will be followed by a book signing and reception.
In addition, Judy Richardson will show and lead a discussion of Scarred Justice: The Orangeburg Massacre, 1968, Wed. March 7, 7pm, location TBA.
Betty Garman Robinson will lead a community organizing workshop for students on Wed., March 7, 7pm, location TBA. The workshop is free and intended for students; space is limited and requires advance registration.
