Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Geneseo's School Code - 0920 Undergrad / 5405 Graduate

The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) provides need-based grants to help eligible New York State residents meet tuition expenses at in-state public and private colleges. Awards range start at $500 per year and range up to full tuition or $5,000, whichever is less. Your award amount will depend on your parents' and your New York State net taxable income.

You can apply for TAP in several ways:

  • Most students who use FAFSA on the Web choose to link directly to their TAP application after completing the FAFSA.
  • If you complete a paper FAFSA instead, you can use TAP on the Web to apply for TAP. To do this, you must wait until you are notified by the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC), the NYS agency that administers TAP.
  • If you prefer, HESC will mail you a paper Express TAP Application to complete and return.

The deadline for applying for TAP is May 1 of the academic year you are seeking aid.

HESC's website - http://www.hesc.org - is filled with information about TAP - eligibility requirements, application procedures, getting TAP estimates, and checking your award on-line. They also offer information on college and career planning, student loans, and other state grants.
