The $35 million renovation to SUNY Geneseo’s Milne Library is on track to open during the 2024–25 academic year, and a new virtual rendering of the library provides a preview.
Funded in part by the State University Construction Fund and designed by JMZ Architects, the updated library received significant input from students, faculty, and staff. It features increased seating, improved windows and lighting, and the addition of study rooms, event spaces, and a cafe.
In a national competition, five SUNY Geneseo students so far have won 2023–24 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships: Genesis Flores ’25 (Senegal); Abby Gleason ’26 (Switzerland); Iliana Papadopoulos ‘25 (Senegal); Corina Tulevech ’25 (Senegal); and Kimberly Wu ’24 (South Korea). Since 2007, 50 Geneseo students have won Gilman scholarships.
SUNY Geneseo students can gain first-hand research experience with primary source materials, thanks to the college’s Special Collections. The Special Collections archive spans hundreds of years and encompasses books, papers, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and miscellaneous artifacts.
Geneseo is introducing a new history master’s degree, available to students beginning in Spring 2024.
SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Theatre and Dance proudly presents the Geneseo Dance Ensemble in Shifting Perspectives, featuring works by student choreographers with 31 performers.
Ten SUNY Geneseo students will serve as Presidential Scholars for the 2023–24 academic year. The students represent a variety of academic areas and exemplify the college’s institutional values. Presidential Scholars are top-achieving members of the senior class who also serve as ambassadors for the College.

President Denise A. Battles announced the public launch of SUNY Geneseo's largest-ever fundraising campaign, Opportunities Rising: Geneseo for Generations at the Kodak Theater in Rochester. With a goal of 45 million dollars, the campaign will support the college's strategic plan by elevating access, creating experiences, and demonstrating impact.

The College-Access Index ranks SUNY Geneseo at #63, tied with schools such as Rutgers University and Binghamton University, on its list of the country’s 286 most selective universities ranked in order of economic diversity.
