SUNY Geneseo has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2022 ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting, which recognizes colleges and universities for efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and student voting.
On any given morning with a clear sky as you turn onto Main Street, the rising sun sweeps across the half mile of small-town America, bathing the shops, restaurants, and offices in the golden light of a new day. The SUNY Geneseo alumni who own several of the dozen small businesses that line Main Street have had hundreds—and in some cases, like Al “Buzzo” Bruno ’72, thousands—of new days to move to other communities, yet they choose to stay.
Kaaden Sherwood ’26, from Poughkeepsie, NY, recently received the Dr. James and Arleen Somerville First Generation Scholarship. A business administration major, Sherwood transferred to Geneseo from Duchess Community College.
First-generation student Wrileigh Bacon ’26, from Syracuse, NY, fell in love with the environment at Geneseo as soon as she toured the campus. “I loved how quiet everything was compared to my home city,” she says.
SUNY Geneseo’s divisions of Finance and Administration and Academic Affairs have named Joanna Santos-Smith project director for revenue generation, a new position created to develop structures and processes to support new and/or expanded programming.
SUNY Geneseo's Department of Theatre and Dance Studies proudly presents the Geneseo Dance Ensemble in Pursuing Connections featuring works by student choreographers with 31 performers. The artfully directed concert will be presented in the Alice Austin Theatre on November 10–12 at 7:30 p.m., and November 13 at 2 p.m.

In a special Halloween edition of Knight Lights, we feature the research of George Goga ‘17, adjunct lecturer and coordinator of the individualized studies program. Goga’s research centers around economic and political theories of the occult in Eastern Europe, focusing on marginalized groups who voluntarily adopt the identity of the witch.
Ten SUNY Geneseo students will serve as Presidential Scholars for the 2022-2023 academic year. The students represent a variety of academic areas and exemplify the college's institutional values. Presidential Scholars are top-achieving members of the senior class who also serve as ambassadors for the College.
SUNY Geneseo recognized Geneseo Foundation Board of Directors treasurer and Business Advisory Council member Robert E. Murray ‘83 for his extended and generous support of the College by dedicating the Murray Conference Room in the School of Business (SOB) in his honor.
In a special unveiling ceremony that preceded the President’s Gala, Geneseo President Denise Battles and SOB Dean Mary Ellen Zuckerman emphasized the lasting impact Murray’s outstanding service and philanthropy have had on the education and careers of students.
The Atacama Trench is a deep-water channel running along the Pacific coast of Chile and Peru, South America. In 2018, SUNY Geneseo marine biologist Mackenzie Gerringer was part of an international team of scientists who used free-falling “landers” to study the trench, gathering images and specimens of deep-sea creatures. The team discovered a new snailfish species unique to the Atacama Trench and to all other known fish species.
