Spanish major Elle Maier '24 from Fairport, NY, has won a 2024–25 Fulbright US Student award to Colombia. Maier is the fourth Geneseo Fulbright recipient this year and becomes the college’s fourth Colombia award winner for a fully funded position teaching in a university or post-secondary institution.
Physics and biophysics double major Matt Willard ’26 has received a 2024 DAAD RISE scholarship to intern this summer at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. Willard, from Tonawanda, NY, is the tenth Geneseo student to win a RISE award.
Reece Torres joined the Geneseo sociology department in Fall 2023 as a 2023–25 SUNY PRODiG Fellow. The PRODiG program (Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Growth) aims to increase the representation of historically underrepresented faculty at SUNY campuses. Torres is Geneseo's fourth fellow since the program's inception in 2020.
Liam Murphy ‘24, a history with adolescence education major from Bellport, NY, will spend the 2024–25 academic year in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) after winning a national award through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET Program USA).
Geneseo’s VanArsdale Business Pitch competition earlier this month awarded the grand prize of $2,500 to Pod God Productions, helmed by Jackie Conti ‘27, a communication major from Endicott, NY, and Emily Whalen ‘27, a mathematics and adolescence education major from Tonawanda, NY.
Torianna Robleto ’24, a childhood with special education major and a concentration in Spanish, has won a 2024–25 Fulbright US Student award to Honduras. Robleto, who uses they/them pronouns, will spend the year as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in either San Pedro Sula or the capital city of Tegucigalpa. They become Geneseo’s 53rd Fulbright awardee and the second to Honduras (in addition to Elizabeth Fraser ’95).
SUNY Geneseo has been celebrating Earth Month with several student-organized events that are open to all.
On Earth Day, April 22, sustainability interns will demonstrate how the composting program works on campus in the College Union from 5 to 7 p.m. Students will share how scraps are turned into nutrient-rich soil for the eGarden and other locations on campus. There will be opportunities for hands-on learning.
