Isom E. Fearn Access Opportunity Programs (AOP)

AOP serves as the College's means of meeting the higher educational aspirations of academically talented students who are under-represented at the post-secondary level of education.  The programs that are united under the AOP department are the Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the Transitional Opportunity Program (TOP). While the programs serve different segments of society, they both provide educational access opportunities and academic support services to participants.

The Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provide traditionally by-passed residents of New York State with access to higher education. The program is aimed at students who have the potential to complete a college degree but do not meet the general admission requirements because their academic credentials may have been adversely affected during their high school years by socioeconomic factors.

The Transitional Opportunity Program (TOP), patterned after EOP, was created to address the fact that many academically talented students (many who were minority students) were being denied access to SUNY Geneseo due to its high admissions standards. As such, Geneseo, in its efforts to provide educational opportunities to New York State residents who make up the rich ethnic/racial diversity that reflects our society, instituted the TOP department in 1985.
