Sturges Renovation Project

It is a great pleasure to announce the start of the construction phase of the Sturge Hall Renovation project. It will launch shortly on or after December 21, 2022. You will soon see construction fencing installed around the perimeter of the building and construction of the project staging area on the south side of Sturges Hall. The stairway between Sturges and College Union on the south end of those buildings will be closed for the duration of the construction project.

This prioritized project aligns with our campus master planning and will be the first major renovation of Sturges Hall since the building was constructed in 1938. Sturges will experience a “gut renovation” that will remove all interior walls and utilities while preserving historical significance of items such as the auditorium, grand tower stairway, windows, and clock. Once renovated, Sturges will be the new home for the departments of Communications, Access Opportunity Programs (AOP), Title IX, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Political Science and International Relations, and History. In addition, the renovated building will have many new classrooms and collaboration spaces, a community health and counseling office, a tutoring center, a testing center, and a historically restored auditorium. The budget is $35 million and the project has a 2026 completion target. The Finance and Administration Facilities Department, in collaboration with the Provost’s Office, are grateful to partner with the State University Construction Fund to continue to advance such projects for Geneseo in service to our campus community.

We will continue to appreciate your patience and support as we advance this and other major projects to benefit our students, faculty, and staff.
