Melisza CamposGENESEO, N.Y. – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed Melisza Campos to the SUNY Geneseo College Council. Campos is a 2001 Geneseo graduate and has been in the performance improvement field for 12 years, serving as vice president of instruction and Carnegie Master for the Dale Carnegie Rochester office.

The council advises Geneseo’s senior administration and provides valuable assistance for problem-solving and for identifying expertise beyond the campus community. Council members serve seven-year terms and meet with the college administration four times a year.

“I am delighted to have Melisza bring her substantial expertise to our group in our important role of advising the College,” said College Council chair Robert Wayland-Smith. “It’s always helpful to have the view of new council members, and we look forward to her involvement.”

Campos is a multi-course certified Dale Carnegie master, one of 25 facilitators reaching that level of distinction and the youngest in the world. She has been ranked in the top 10 trainers in the United States and her team is always in the top 20 percent for quality worldwide. She is focused on training, coaching and supporting her facilitation team, innovating solutions for organizations to engage their workforce, and assessing potential Dale Carnegie trainers.

Campos served two four-year terms as a commissioner of the Rochester Board of Education, the youngest woman to have served as a commissioner. She worked on the revision and implementation of the district’s wellness policy, customer service initiatives and the teacher/administrative tenure oversight process. She also is a member of the United Way board, the WXXI Board of Trustees and is the 2016-17 Minnett Professor at RIT.

Among awards Campos has received are the 2008 Rochester Up and Coming Businesswoman, which recognizes women who have demonstrated success and influence in the community; the RBJ’s 40 Under 40 Award; the 2011 Latinas Unidas Leadership Award; and the 2016 Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction recognition.

“My colleagues and I receive invaluable guidance from our College Council members, and I am pleased Melisza has joined the council so we can benefit from her considerable experience,” said SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles. “It’s always a pleasure having alumni in these key advisory roles as they provide an important perspective as individuals familiar with our campus.”

Campos joins Wayland-Smith and seven other members of Geneseo’s College Council: The Rev. Dr. Iris Banister; Dr. Robert A. Heineman; Dr. A. Gidget Hopf; Dr. Judith Hunter; Mary Luckern; Christian N. Valentino; and Geneseo student and Student Association President Michael Baranowski.
