Allen Authors Textbook Examining the Psychology of Happiness

How do you define happiness? Jim Allen, associate professor of psychology at SUNY Geneseo, has taken a critical look at that question in his recently published textbook titled “The Psychology of Happiness in the Modern World: A Social Psychological Approach.” Published by Springer, the book places a socio-cultural lens on the field by emphasizing economic and other social/structural factors that influence human happiness.

Imam Khalid Latif, executive director and chaplain for the Islamic Center at New York University, will deliver SUNY Geneseo’s 2017 MacVittie Lecture Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Doty Hall Recital Hall. His address, “Racialized Religion: Understanding Faith in the United States,” is free and open to the public.

Concert to Feature World Premiere of McClure’s Composition Generated from Antarctic Data

The annual fall concert of the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Spectrum Singers will have a unique tone this year featuring the world premiere of Glenn McClure’s ’86/MSEd ’11 new choral composition “Tremble,” based upon scientific data he gathered during a visit to Antarctica last year. The concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 in the Doty Hall Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
