Geneseo Names Presidential Scholars for 2016-17

GENESEO, N.Y. – Fifteen SUNY Geneseo students are Presidential Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year, representing a variety of academic areas and exemplifying the college's institutional values. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the senior class who also serves as an ambassador for the college.

To receive the honor, a student must hold a minimum grade point average of 3.6 and demonstrate academic achievement across the curriculum, affirming Geneseo's values of excellence and innovation. Examples of such achievement could be involvement in major directed studies, substantial overseas studies, independent research, conference presentations, significant artistic projects and/or record of creativity. They also must demonstrate an active involvement with the community.

The following students are Geneseo Presidential Scholars for 2016-17 academic year (all hometowns are in New York):

  • Stephanie Allen, a double major in mathematics and economics and a member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program, from Binghamton
  • Jacqueline Christensen, a French and art history double major and a Spanish and museum studies double minor, from Sayville
  • Alexandra Dananberg, a biology major with a mathematics minor, from Massapequa
  • Joshua DeJoy, a history major, philosophy minor and a member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program, from New Paltz
  • Francesca Digiorgio, a psychology and vocal performance double major, from Slingerlands
  • Kiaya Rose Dilsner-Lopez, an English major and a member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program, from Island Park
  • Nicole Eras, a psychology and musical theater double major with a biology minor, from Cedarhurst
  • Kendall Fitzgerald, a geological sciences major and a member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program, from Manorville
  • Chloe Forsell, an English (creative writing) and French double major, from Westfield
  • Darrell Getman, a political science and economics double major, from Johnstown
  • Jessica Heppler, a philosophy major and member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program, from Holbrook
  • Mohammed Hossain, a psychology/philosophy double major from Brooklyn
  • Hannah Loo, a double major in biology and music (vocal performance), a chemistry minor and Goldwater Scholarship recipient, from Flushing
  • Ethan Turner, a physics major from Chittenango
  • Jenna Zomback, a mathematics major and member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program.

Presidential Scholars are nominated by faculty members and reviewed by a panel of faculty and students before being recommended to the provost for final approval.
