GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles has been elected to the Council of Fellows Board of the American Council on Education (ACE). She will also serve the first year of her three-year term as Secretary, an elected officer of the Board’s Executive Committee.
The ACE Fellows Program is regarded as the country’s premier higher education leadership development experience, preparing senior leaders to serve American colleges and universities. Battles has previously held leadership positions in the Council of Fellows, having served as both a Board and Executive Committee member, in addition to being tapped for numerous committee assignments.
The Council comprises alumni of the ACE Fellows Program and has a mission to provide continued professional development opportunities for its members. The Fellows immerse themselves for a year in the culture, policies, and decision-making processes of other institutions. The program seeks to prepare higher education’s future leaders for real-world challenges and to meet the capacity-building needs of their institutions.
Since 1965, more than 1,800 vice presidents, deans, department chairs, faculty, and other emerging leaders have participated in the ACE Fellows Program. Battles served as an ACE Fellow from 2000-01 at Auburn University under the mentorship of then-President William V. Muse.
“I gained valuable experience as an ACE Fellow and am honored to be re-joining this Board to help ensure the ongoing professional development of those who provide leadership to our nation’s colleges and universities,” said Battles.
ACE is an influential higher education association, representing the presidents of accredited, degree-granting institutions in the United States.
