GENESEO, N.Y. – Geneseo’s musical theatre majors will present the musical revue “And the World Goes Round” as part of their Page to Stage program from Nov. 4 - 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. The performance features the music of celebrated Broadway songwriting duo John Kander and Fred Ebb.
According to show and music director Don Kot, coordinator of musical theatre at Geneseo, Kander and Ebb “are one of the great musical theatre storytelling, songwriting teams.” He added that the pair has worked on classic productions such as “Cabaret” and “Chicago,” among others.
Kot emphasized the myriad of lyrical and stylistic varieties that will be showcased.
“Our musical theatre majors are getting to perform everything from heartbreaking pathos to zany humor to show-stopping Broadway numbers,” said Kot.
Seniors Jake Stewart, Alexandra Imbrosci and Samantha Clowes will be performing, as well as juniors Nicole Eras, William Gfeller, Rebecca Leville, Ben Reiner and sophomores Jessica Murphy and Kim Cole. Freshmen Katelyn Brooks, Erin Burris, Miranda Calarco, Sarah Maphey and Erica Milliman make up the crew. Kot will be the pianist.
Kot explained that since the revue is not a complete music department production, the focus is placed solely on the performers, as opposed to having to account for external theatrical factors.
“We'll be focusing on the performance elements of this musical – acting, singing, dancing,” said Kot. “We won't be concentrating on scenic elements, lighting, costumes or sound reinforcement.”
Kot noted that the audience will really be able to acknowledge the hard work and talent of the students through the works of the accomplished Kander and Ebb.
“Our audience will get to experience the musical theatre majors ‘up close and personal’ and go on an amazing journey of Kander and Ebb’s musical theatre material,” said Kot.
General admission tickets for “And the World Goes Round” will be available at the door 45 minutes before each show.
