Please join SUNY Geneseo’s Department for the Performing Arts and the Geneseo Dance Ensemble for a performance of new works by student choreographers. Journey to Meeting Point is dedicated to Myrtle Merritt, PhD, and features 40 performers.
The concert, artistically directed and produced by professor of dance studies Jonette Lancos, will be presented in the Alice Austin Theatre on November 12, 13, and 14 at 7:30 p.m., and November 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20, available online or with cash at the door.
All dances are choreographed by students in the dance studies program and mentored by dance studies faculty members Lancos, lecturer Alissa Bachand, and adjunct lecturers Deborah Scodese French and Allison Thomashefski, with adjudicator Melanie Aceto ’95.
Amelia Caselnova ’27 presents Move Aside, a confident, fun-loving jazz piece. Aviva Daniel ’27 presents Brighter Days, depicting a positive outlook on things. Violet Rand ’27 offers To the Moon, portraying the relationship between a mother and two daughters. Kayla Shaw ’27 presents To Rise Again, depicting life challenges. Emily Warren ’27 shares Ubuntu, about the cycle of growth.
Curves and Contours, a new work performed by the Dance Composition class, uses choreographic theory and the elements and principles of design as exhibited in Charles Hinman’s sculptural paintings. In The Ball Dance, the Dance Kinesiology class expands the technique and theory of physio ball conditioning beyond exercises and into a creative dance.
Journey to Meeting Point is directed by Lancos in collaboration with student assistants Caselnova, Daniel, Rand, and Warren. Technical director Brendon Doyle mentors student lighting designers. Costumes are coordinated by Claire Popoli, costume shop manager, in collaboration with the costume shop crew.
Journey to Meeting Point is supported by generous donations through The Geneseo Foundation.
