Minor in European Studies

The Minor in European Studies is the newest minor at SUNY-Geneseo. This minor incorporates courses from several different departments, including Languages and Literatures, Political Science and International Relations, History, English, Art History, Philosophy, and Music. Other courses in European Studies can be considered from interdisciplinary courses and Study Abroad with prior approval of the Coordinator.

Program description

The European Studies Minor is designed for students who desire an interdisciplinary study of Europe, from Great Britain to Russia, and from Scandinavia to the Balkan regions. Courses are wide-ranging, encompassing various European languages, history, politics, philosophy, and cultures. The European Union and non-affiliated countries will continue to influence political relations, climate change, and the economy for the foreseeable future. The choice of courses is wide-ranging and will give the student of European Studies well-rounded knowledge of a continent with almost 10% of the world’s population and over 200 languages.

French OR German OR Russian OR Spanish 213
INTD 217: Introduction to European Studies OR HUMN 220 OR HUMN 221 *Student must take a HUMN course that was not taken for the general education requirement.

Electives:
Electives can be chosen from 2 groups of course offerings:

  • Social Sciences
  • Languages, Literature, and Arts

Because the minor has so many courses to choose from, students will find that this minor can easily be completed during their college career.
