Composition Diploma
Learning Outcomes
This diploma is restricted to music majors and represents an advanced credential that builds on the ICM in Harmony and Composition.
Given its prerequisite structure, students who complete the Composition Diploma will complete the Harmony and Composition ICM en cours but will only be awarded the Composition Diploma.

Current Geneseo students can begin any microcredential by taking the course and contacting the chair or the coordinator listed.

Required
- MUSC 259 – Elements of Accompaniment and Figured Bass Credit(s): 2
- MUSC 317 – Orchestration Credit(s): 2
- MUSC 439 – Portfolio Review Credit(s): 2-3
One from:
- MUSC 302 – Music Recording and Production Credit(s): 3
- MUSC 303 – Film and Game Scoring Credit(s): 3
- MUSC 456 – Composition for the Music Major Credit(s): 2
One from:
- MUSC 356 – Contemporary Harmony for Composition Credit(s): 2
- MUSC 357 – Counterpoint Credit(s): 2 *
Students completing the Composition Diploma are required to complete:
- A final composition
- Arrange for its public performance
- Students will write a reflective statement regarding the public performance of the work and the process of bringing the performance to fruition.
*Note that both MUSC 356 and 357 cannot count for both the ICM in Harmony and Composition and the Composition Diploma. One of the two courses should be counted for the former while the second course will count for the latter.
