Need a letter of recommendation?

Need a Letter of Recommendation from me?

Make sure you request the letter with at least three (3) weeks left BEFORE the submission deadline. You may give my name as your reference ONLY after I agree to write your letter. I will NOT write a reference unless you sign the confidentiality waiver included on most reference forms (I do not hand over or email my recommendation letter to the student requesting it, but directly to employers or schools). I also do NOT typically write support letters to transfer from SUNY Geneseo to other undergraduate institutions. Please make sure you MEET the following criteria before approaching me:

For study abroad, and internships:

  • You must have taken at least one course with me in which you did a B+ work or better and I came to know your name on sight.
  • I should have a fairly good idea of your extra-curricular interests and activities.
  • You should be active in department clubs and/or student organizations.
  • You should have been a respectful person, to me and to your classmates.

For graduate schools, and scholarships:

  • You must have taken at least two courses with me, including one at the 300 level in which you did an A- work or better.
  • I must know your name on sight.
  • You should have been an active participant in class discussions.
  • You should have been a respectful person, to me and to your classmates.

For substitute or year-long temporary teaching positions in U.S. or abroad (including TAPIF):

  • You must have taken at least two 300 level courses with me in which you did a B+ work or better.
  • You must have served as a tutor in our Department OR as a Teaching Assistant for any of our lower level French classes.
  • You should have been an active participant in class discussions.
  • You should have been a respectful person, to me and to your classmates.

For any other reference letter (including full time career employments), please contact me at least four (4) weeks in advance of the submission deadline with the specifics.
