Geneseo Chamber Singers Have Busy December Concert Schedule

Chamber Singers

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo’s premier choral ensemble, the Geneseo Chamber Singers, has a busy December with multiple concerts scheduled over the next two weeks.

Under the direction of Gerard Floriano, professor and chair of the Department of Music, the ensemble has been selected by blind audition as the only university/college choir to perform at this year’s New York State School Music Association’s annual winter conference Dec. 3 in Rochester, N.Y. The performance will be before the largest gathering of high school music teachers and students in the state and will feature the music of Moses Hogan, Frank Tichelli, Gioacchino Rossini and Anton Bruckner. It’s the second time the ensemble has been selected to perform at the conference.

The following day, Dec. 4, the Chamber Singers will be performing Handel’s “Messiah” with the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Geneseo alumna Laura Heimes and other professional soloists at Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave. in Rochester. The 53-year tradition of this concert is among the jewels of the holiday season. Tickets are available online, at any Wegmans service counter or by phone at (585) 442-9778.

The Chamber Singers will be singing excerpts from “Messiah” Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 23 Main St., in Geneseo. The concert also will feature the Spectrum Women’s Ensemble, under the direction of Amy Cochrane, and the first-ever performance by the newly formed Geneseo Men’s Choir, both also under Floriano’s direction. The concert is free and open to the public.
