Her address, “One Nation, Under God: The Myth, Ethic and Hope of Religious Freedom in the USA,” is free and open to the public. Deichmann is a 1981 Geneseo graduate.
Deichmann served as president of the seminary for eight years. Her areas of teaching and research include the history of Christianity, women in the history of Christianity, historical theology and Wesleyan/United Methodist studies. She has published numerous articles on the history of Christian missions and the social gospel movement and is the author of “Gender and the Social Gospel.” She earned a doctorate from Drew University and a master of divinity from Colgate Rochester Divinity School.
The MacVittie Lecture Series – named in memory of SUNY Geneseo President Emeritus Robert W. MacVittie and his wife, the late Margaret (Peggy) MacVittie – brings prominent theologians to campus to examine issues as they relate to questions of ultimate existence. This year’s event is co-sponsored by the MacVittie Lecture Committee, the Office of the President, GOLD (Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development) and the Geneseo Interfaith Service Project (GISP).
