SUNY Geneseo Welcomes EOP Summer Scholars

This month, SUNY Geneseo welcomed its incoming class of Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students to campus for the Summer Scholars Program.

The summer program is an intensive, four-week course of study that gives dozens of incoming EOP students a residential college experience before they start classes in the fall semester. The program is supported by EOP staff, faculty, and 11 peer mentors.

Since 2022, Geneseo has significantly increased its number of incoming EOP students. Support for the SUNY-wide program is made possible in part by a $10.7M increase in program funding for the 2026–27 state budget.

“EOP embodies Geneseo’s mission as New York’s public honors college: access and excellence go hand in hand, and with the right support, every student can succeed,” says Costas Solomou, VP of enrollment management.

“We thank Governor Hochul and state legislators for advancing higher education for students here and across New York State,” says SUNY Geneseo President Melinda Treadwell. “The state’s and SUNY’s investment ensures these students experience Geneseo’s distinctive education, and we are thrilled to welcome this year’s cohort to our summer program.”

“I love to see EOP thriving across the SUNY system and continuing the good work of not only Arthur O. Eve, but more specifically to Geneseo, the good work of Isom E. Fearn, who led our EOP from 1974 to 2007,” says Flossie Stevens, interim director of The Isom E. Fearn Access Opportunity Programs (AOP) at SUNY Geneseo. “At a time when so much in our world can seem uncertain, I am thrilled that EOP continues to receive such tremendous support.”
